A wedding, a comet and a supermoon.

The moon followed me home tonight as I drove through the countryside of Orange and Greene to Albemarle. Chilly, crisp air blew in through my open windows. Principles of Salt, my current favorite playlist, filled the space in and around me. As I sang, I came over a hill, dry cornfields lined the road, the deep Blue Ridge Mountains spread across in the distance with a radiant sunset hanging along the ridge. I yelled out how beautiful it all was. It was almost more than I could stand.

Just when you think you can’t deal with the BS of life, good things begin to happen. Autumn brings change and reflection, It’s a time for epiphanies and melancholic meanderings.  The season is bittersweet. As a farmer, Autumn days are welcomed since the endless work and long days of summer have passed. Harvest is over, get the wood stacked, winter is coming and it’s time to start hibernating. Summer’s freedom and warm sunshine is gone. It’s time to slow down, light a fire, pull out cozy sweaters, drink warming wine, read a book, write a letter (at least until it snows and the power goes out and the road needs plowing and calves tending to).

With all these sights and thoughts I was reminiscing on what a perfect weekend we just had here at Chisholm Vineyards with the wedding of my eldest son. We celebrated for 3 days with each event building to the finale, the wedding. I am still processing, still soaking up all the love and joy. I am missing everyone who is gone. I’m not ready to share for fear of losing the wondrous feeling inside me. More on this later.
